Panoramic View of Mamula Island

On the way to the Blue Cave, just as you reach the entrance of Boka Bay, there’s a small circular island that always catches people’s attention — Mamula Island.

From the boat, you’ll spot an old stone fortress sitting right in the middle of it. It dates back to the 19th century, when this part of the coast was under Austro-Hungarian rule. It looks almost like something out of a movie — quiet, a little mysterious, and surrounded by deep blue water.

But Mamula isn’t just beautiful scenery. During World War II, the fortress was used as a prison, which gives the island a much heavier, more complex history. Today, it stands as one of the most intriguing landmarks at the entrance of the bay.

What makes this part of the tour really special is the sudden change in landscape. As you leave behind the calm, sheltered waters near Kotor and Perast, everything opens up. The sea gets deeper, the cliffs become more dramatic, and you can feel the shift as Boka Bay meets the Adriatic.

Passing by the island is one of those moments where everyone on the boat slows down, looks around, and reaches for their camera. Between the fortress, the rugged coastline, and the open sea stretching ahead, it’s easily one of the most photogenic spots on the Blue cave tour.

Submarine Tunnel in Boka Bay

Hidden Submarine Tunnel in Boka Bay

Besides the famous Old Town of Kotor, Perast, and Our Lady of the Rocks, there are also some hidden places in Boka Bay that many visitors don’t expect to see. One of the most interesting places is an old submarine tunnel, built during the time of Yugoslavia, when Boka Bay was an important military naval base.

The tunnel was built inside the mountain to hide submarines and military boats, making them invisible from the open sea. Today, it is no longer used by the military, but visitors can enter the tunnel by boat and experience this unusual place from the inside.

When you enter the tunnel, the temperature drops, the light changes, and everything becomes very quiet. It feels completely different from the sunny towns, islands, and open sea around the bay, and it is always an interesting and unexpected part of the tour.

On our boat tours to the Blue Cave, we also visit this submarine tunnel, giving our guests the chance to see not only the natural beauty of Boka Bay, but also a part of its interesting military history.

If you are visiting Kotor and want to see something different and unusual, visiting the submarine tunnel by boat is an experience you probably would not expect in this part of Montenegro.

Important notice for guests about Blue Cave tours

We would like to inform our guests about an important update regarding our speedboat tours.

Due to a new regulation, an additional fee of €5 per person is required for visiting the island Our Lady of the Rocks, even for short stops (effective from April 1, 2026).

To ensure a smooth experience without unexpected extra costs, Sea Stars will not dock on the island unless requested. Instead, guests will enjoy a panoramic view of Our Lady of the Rocks, along with a 20/30 minute stop in the beautiful old town Perast.

Guests who wish to visit the island can still do so with the additional €5 per person fee. Please note that in this case, the stop in Perast will not be included.

All other aspects of the tour remain unchanged:
– Duration (3 hours)
– Route
– Price
– Other stops and highlights

Thank you for your understanding and trust. For any additional information or assistance, feel free to contact us.

Kind regards,
Sea Stars Kotor Team.

Kotor Panorama

A Different View of Kotor Bay

Many people visit Kotor for the old town, the history, and the beautiful streets, but seeing Kotor Bay from the sea is a completely different experience. From the boat, you can really see the size of the mountains, the small villages along the coast, and the peaceful atmosphere that makes this area so special. There is a reason why the Bay of Kotor is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and being on the water gives you a whole new perspective of this unique place.

On our boat tours, we take our guests across Kotor Bay to places like Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks, where history, nature, and the sea all come together. It’s not just about the destination, but about the experience of being on the water, relaxing, taking photos, swimming, and enjoying the bay in a different way.

If you are visiting Kotor and want to see the bay from a new perspective, a boat tour around Kotor Bay, Perast, and Our Lady of the Rocks is something you should not miss.

Private and group boat tours from Kotor are available every day, and we would be happy to show you the bay from the sea.

Celebrating Love on a Boat Tour in Kotor Bay

A few days ago we had the honor of being part of a very special moment – an engagement on the water in Kotor Bay, right in front of beautiful Perast. It was truly one of those perfect days. The sea was completely calm, the sun was shining, and the mountains surrounding the bay looked absolutely stunning.

We slowly approached Perast and stopped the boat facing Our Lady of the Rocks. The view was incredible and the moment felt very special even before the proposal happened. Then the big question was asked, and of course – she said yes.

Moments like this are why we love what we do. It’s not just a boat tour, it’s about creating memories that people will remember for the rest of their lives.

Congratulations again to the lovely couple, and thank you for choosing Sea Stars to be part of your special day.

If you are planning a surprise, engagement, or special celebration in Kotor Bay, we will be happy to help you organize an unforgettable boat tour
